What Does "3 Crashes in 3 Years" Mean?
Florida screens crash reports. When a driver has a third crash within 36 months of the first, FLHSMV sends a notice requiring a driver improvement course.
For a third crash, the course must include behind-the-wheel instruction and an assessment of your ability to drive safely. You must pass the driving portion to get credit for the course.
Don't Ignore the Notice
You have 90 days
Florida gives you 90 days from the notice to complete the course. If you don't, FLHSMV cancels your driver license until you finish it.

Completing Your 3-in-3 Requirement
- Review your notice. Note the requirement, deadline, and any reference number from FLHSMV.

- Register. Pick a classroom date and schedule your behind-the-wheel lessons.
- Complete both parts. Attend the 12-hour classroom and the 4-hour driving portion.
- Get your certificate. We issue completion documentation when you finish.
- Follow FLHSMV's instructions. Keep your paperwork and confirm nothing else is required.

How 3-in-3 Compares to Other Courses
Your FLHSMV notice decides which course you need. Here's how 3-in-3 differs from the courses people often confuse it with.
4-Hour BDI
For eligible traffic tickets. It has no behind-the-wheel portion, so it won't satisfy a 3-in-3 notice.
12-Hour ADI
For license suspensions and reinstatement. It's the same classroom as Part 1, but on its own it lacks the driving portion 3-in-3 requires.
8-Hour Aggressive Driving
Court-ordered for aggressive driving behavior. It's tied to a court case, not your crash history.

Can I take a 4-hour BDI course instead?
No. BDI has no behind-the-wheel portion, so it doesn't meet the 3-in-3 requirement.
Is this the same as the 12-hour ADI course?
The classroom portion is our 12-hour ADI course, but 3-in-3 also requires behind-the-wheel training. ADI alone won't satisfy a 3-in-3 notice.
Can I take the 3-in-3 course online?
Not entirely. The behind-the-wheel portion must be done in a car with an instructor. Call us about your options for the classroom portion.
Will completing the course clear my driving record?
No. It satisfies the course requirement, but FLHSMV maintains your driving record and license status.
